Progress in Pictures

You’ve been patient.  You’ve been understanding.  Basically, you’ve all been awesome.

As a reward for your patience, understanding, and awesomeness, here are the progress pictures of my kids’ bedroom revivals that I promised.

I am sorry for the poor quality of the photos; I am going to get my friend with a really good camera to come and take the final reveal photos.  Nevertheless, here are the progress pics as promised:

The Home-Mood Connection

My last post, From Survival to Revival, or the One Where I Open Up, focuses on the struggles I have faced over the last couple of years as well as some of the ways I have managed to pull myself out of a mild-moderate depression.  After writing this post, I began thinking of how I truly believe that the features of your home (for example, cluttered?, organized?, well-lit?, full of plants?, etc.) can have an impact on mood.

So, I set out to find five fab online articles dealing with how adding certain decorating elements, such as colour, to your home can boost, or influence, mood.

Here’s what I found (click on pictures to gain access to the articles)…

ONE

THIS ARTICLE OFFERS INTERESTING TIDBITS OF ADVICE ON HOW CERTAIN DECORATING ELEMENTS, LIKE BIG WINDOWS AND SOFT CURVES IN FURNITURE, CAN PROMOTE A PERSON’S WELL-BEING.  IT ALSO MENTIONS WHY MINIMALIST DECOR MAY NOT BE THE BEST FOR PEOPLE WITH DEMENTIA OR ALZHEIMER’S.

TWO

THIS BRIEF GUIDE LINKS PARTICULAR COLOURS TO CERTAIN MOODS.  FOR EXAMPLE, THE ARTICLE CLAIMS THAT USING GREEN AND YELLOW IN YOUR HOME MAY HELP YOU FEEL MORE UPBEAT.

THREE

A USEFUL, BUT BRIEF, LOOK AT SPECIFIC COLOUS TO USE IN YOUR HOME TO BOOST MOOD.  I AM PARTICULARLY TAKEN WITH BENJAMIN MOORE’S WOODLAWN BLUE

FOUR

THIS ARTICLE FOCUSES ON HOW TO USE FENG SHUI TECHNIQUES TO FOSTER A HAPPY HOME.

FIVE

THE AUTHOR PROVIDES FIVE PRACTICAL HOME DECOR TIPS ON HOW TO BOOST YOUR MOOD, AND CREATE A MORE PEACEFUL HOME ENVIRONMENT.

Enjoy the articles and your weekend!

Taking Decorating Cues From the Past

Today, I would like to present some pictures that were taken at my husband’s place of work: a National Historical Site and Museum featuring a Georgian frame farmhouse built by a Pennsylvania-German Mennonite in the early 1800s.  When Lily, Liam, and I went for a visit a few weeks back, I seriously couldn’t stop taking pics of all the incredible furniture.  Here are five fabulous decorating and design elements that I have to share with the world.  Enjoy!

Summertime, and the Living is “Lazy”

Happy Friday the 13th!

I apologize for my tardiness with this post.  Summer living has officially taken over = I am suffering from lackofroutineitus.

Plans are in the works, however, to help me stay focused on taking steps towards reviving this old place o’ mine (even though all I really want to be doing everyday is sleep in, spend the day soaking up the sunshine, and enjoy amazingly tasty BBQ delights in the cool of the evening).

Mirror, Mirror, On the Wall

Anyone else LOVE fairy tales?  There has definitely been an influx of the fairy tale genre in pop culture recently.  From ABC’s Once Upon a Time, to box office releases like Mirror Mirror and Snow White and the Huntsman, the world of majestic castles, evil queens, and fierce dragons has officially permeated mainstream culture (here in North America, at least).

Well, this past weekend, my regular ho-hum type of existence was touched by a little fairy tale magic.  My fairy godmother (in the form of my mother-in-law) granted me a special wish: the ability to take home a very lovely and ornate mirror to adorn Princess Lily’s chamber with.

My last post focused on the serendipitous deals, discoveries, and decisions Lily and I made regarding the transformation of her current bedroom into a pretty, pre-teen paradise (read that post here).  As a follow-up, let’s take a quick look at some of the unanticipated deals, discoveries, and decisions relating to Liam’s bedroom.
